Fair Map Referendum Amendment Community Forum
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the 2nd floor auditorium of Spoon River College, 208 S. Johnson, Macomb.
Brad McMillan, Executive Director, Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service at Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois will speak about the single most important ethical reform Illinois could undertake to eliminate the system that allows state lawmakers to draw their own legislative district lines. Why is this the most important governmental change that needs to be made in Illinois? Because redistricting problems sit at the core of every other reform and ethical issue facing the state of Illinois.
A broad coalition including the Illinois League of Women Voters, members of the Illinois Reform Commission, Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, Better Government Association, Common Cause and the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce have banded together to push for the Illinois Fair Map Amendment. The coalition is looking for 500,000 signatures of registered voters on petitions by the end of April. This will insure that the amendment will be placed on the November 2010 ballot.
